Sowmika Rao, MD

Dr. Sowmika Rao is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician specializing in Rheumatology. She earned her medical degree from NTR University of Health Sciences in India and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Michigan State University, now University of Michigan Health-Sparrow, in Michigan. She subsequently worked as an Internist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Michigan State University before completing advanced fellowship training in Rheumatology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Rao is currently board-eligible in Rheumatology.

She enjoys caring for a wide range of rheumatologic conditions, with particular interests in lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis, sarcoidosis, gout, and myositis. She values building long-term relationships with her patients and helping improve their overall quality of life.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Rao enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her family.
